Mindfulness meditation is not easy. We sit on the cushion and try to bring a sense of calm focus and immediately discover how chaotic and distracting our own minds are. An easier way in is through movement. Movement helps us with this calm focus. Our minds and our bodies are one. It may sound obvious but we often think that they are somehow separate. They aren’t! If we practise calm, focussed movement this gets reflected in our state of mind.

Tai Chi and yoga are such practises. Developed over thousands of years to help us to practise mindfulness. We approach them with a mind-set of yielding patience. They are huge arts and cannot be rushed. We will never master them, so we must accept this in our study.
