Our Stevenage based club has been operating for 15 years and we have a mix of long term students and total beginners. Our teaching style is very informal promoting a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
We meet every Tuesday evening at 7.00 and run through until 9.00. Christian Birch, has been studying T’ai Chi since 1981, starting with Danny Connor and from 1982 with John Kells Also, Since 2002 he has been training with his friend Bob Fermor, who has kindly shared his knowledge of Baguazhang, Daochuan and Yang style T’ai Chi Ch’uan. Christian has also studied SUN style Tai Chi under David Martin Christian has taught Adult Education classes in London and Hertfordshire, introductory sessions for Henlow Grange Health Farm in Bedfordshire and David Lloyd Health Club (Stevenage) as well as Leisure 50’s for Stevenage Borough Council.
Christian Birch has a particular interest in the health benefits of T’ai Chi and holds a MSc in Health Promotion.
Andy Spragg has been training in the chinese Martial Arts for 20 years, concentrating on Wing Chun initially. Since 1991, Andy has been training in T’ai Chi with Christian and has an interest in both the martial side of the art and its meditative aspect.Andy is a Buddhist and is particularly interested in the synergy between Tai Chi and Buddhist meditation.
Bev Fernandes, has been studying Yang Style Tai Chi since 1999. Bev regularly attends classes in her home town of Yeovil and more recently in Sherborne. Bev’s teacher has studied and qualified with Men X Bao, the head of Bao’s Lung Fei Tai Chi Association. Bev is currently assisting her teacher with weekly classes in addition to her own studying. Bev has studied the new 10 form, and the 24, 88 and most recently the 32 Yang style forms plus the Tai Chi Broadsword. For Bev, Tai Chi is an important part of her life, it has improved her focus, lowered stress levels and provides both a mental and physical challenge.
